The heartbeat of Calgary is in its city centre. Calgary's downtown is a business community with activities happening every day of the week.
The Core Shopping Centre is the main mall in the downtown core which includes The Devonian Gardens. A peaceful place to sit and watch fish, enjoy listening to water and breathe in the tropical gardens.
One of the newest attractions is Studio Bell, home of Canada's National Music Centre. Another impressive, recently built structure is the Calgary Central Library. The building itself is an attraction, not just the books and activities the library offers.
Calgary is also a winter city, anyone here can attest to how wonderful it is to have the Plus 15 Network. This network connects most buildings in downtown with an incredible 83 bridges and nearly 16km's of sheltered pedestrian walkways.
The tallest building downtown is Brookfield Place standing at 247M (810ft) high with 56 stories. There are many others that help create the skyline including The Bow Tower and condominiums like Telus Sky reaching 59 stories. Many others are just below these tallest heights.
Another great place to sit back any relax, or run, or walk in Princes Island Park. Here there are extensive walking paths, parks, green space, festivals and events, picnic areas, washrooms, restaurants, water parks, cross country skiing and skating. The Bow River wraps around the island offering a truly special getaway while in downtown.
Downtown is home to the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, where you can attend many differing concerts day and evening. You'll often find the musicians playing on their own and teaching around Calgary.
I hope I have been able to show you the life of living downtown. Of course, there are so many restaurants worth mentioning, but you'll need to discover them when you move here!
